Londis – Christmas Partnership

An Introduction

There’s something about Christmas that makes you long to be home. It’s the moment when the scent of mulled wine meets the chill of winter air, when the footpaths are lined with familiar faces – some you haven’t bumped into since last Christmas.

This is the season when communities draw closer, their shared heartbeat resonating a little stronger. And at the heart of it all lies the essence of “local”. It’s the shared traditions, the inside jokes, our local landmarks and the deep roots that tie us to where we’re from.

And this Christmas, Londis and our local radio stations understood this connection in ways few others could.

The Project

The concept was simple: create a series of uniquely local Christmas greetings. But the impact was anything but ordinary. These messages, delivered by the trusted voices of our local radio stations, celebrated the quirks, traditions, and landmarks that define each county and community across Ireland.

Each of the IRS+ radio stations delivered uniquely tailored Christmas greetings from Londis to each station’s audience. But the 15-second stings did more than just deliver a holiday message. They celebrated the heart of what it means to be local. Each message highlighted the beauty in the familiar and the magic of the places we call home. For four weeks in December, each station aired 20 x 15-second stings per week, spreading warmth and connectivity throughout the season.

In every corner of Ireland, the festive wishes from Londis rang out like a friendly neighbour knocking on your door, wishing you peace and joy in a way only they could.

Mid West Radio in Mayo wished their listeners a Happy Christmas, tying the greeting to a local treasure – “the green and red wristband on your suitcase,” a symbol as distinct as the people themselves:

“At Londis we wish all our customers in Mayo a very happy Christmas, we know what locals want because we are local like you. Even as local as that green and red wristband on your suitcase. Happy Christmas from Londis.”

Meanwhile, Sunshine 106.8 in Dublin painted the city’s Christmas cheer with a nod to the traditional visit to the forty foot in a Santa hat.

“At Londis we wish all our customers in Dublin a very happy Christmas. We know what locals want because we are local like you. Even as local as your annual visit to the forty foot in a Santa hat! Happy Christmas from Londis.”

Each message reminded listeners that amidst the hustle and bustle of the season, the spirit of their community is always close, and that Londis was right there with them, as local as they are.

The Innovative Approach

While holiday campaigns often rely on generic jingles or national advertising, we took a different approach. This wasn’t about broadcasting a message from afar – it was about celebrating the heart of what makes each community unique, from the landmarks to the quirky traditions that only locals know about.

The stings weren’t just scripted, they were brought to life with local accents, inside references, and an authentic pride that comes only from being part of a community. It was about reinforcing the bond between Londis and its shoppers.

The result? Christmas greetings that didn’t just cut through the holiday noise, they struck a chord. They felt personal, familiar, and meaningful, resonating with listeners in a way few campaigns do.

The Londis Christmas campaign felt like the community touch we all crave at Christmas and a true reminder that, no matter where we go, there’s no place like home.
